Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, with anime, video games, manga and trading cards — which have almost always maintained a degree of popularity for 25 years. But with the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s been a resurgence in the demand for Pokémon cards as collectibles and lucrative investments.

With timeless nostalgic value and a diverse audience, the frenzy to buy, trade and sell these cards is unparalleled, with some cards even selling for hundreds or thousands of dollars. Global’s Alexia Kapralos spoke to Paul Clark from TRU’s School of Business and Economics, and explored why so many people are trying to “catch ‘em all” — in paper form. Watch the video
