The practice of law will undoubtedly face many changes in the not-so-distant future. On Feb. 4 and 5 the faculty of law will host the third annual student run conference Trending Now #NewLaw in the brand new law building, Old Main at Thompson Rivers University.

Ground-breaking Supreme Court of Canada decisions, the advent of new technologies, the impact of legal spheres outside the traditional courtroom, and changes in the practices, structures, and methods used by both law firms and law schools are just some of the topics to be explored and analyzed by nationally recognized legal experts and students during the two days.

The conference will occur from 9:00 to 5:00 each day and is open to Thompson Rivers University students as well as the public at large. A conference schedule will be posted to TRU Society of Law Students webpages. Follow the Twitter feed at @TRULaw_SLS.

Notable keynote speakers include the BC Information & Privacy Commissioner; Elizabeth Denham; legal futurist, Mitch Kowalski; Chief Judge Thomas Crabtree and Judge Len Marchand.

Dean Bradford Morse stated, “As the new Dean of Law, I am very impressed with the enthusiasm, energy and commitment to expanding the intellectual boundaries for TRU law students that has been displayed by the Society of Law Students and the large committee organizing the 3rd Annual SLS Law Conference. This year’s event covers a very diverse array of topics that will be addressed by students and staff of the Faculty along with the President of the Law Society of BC [Ken Walker, QC], Judge Marchand, senior lawyers, other law deans and keynote speaker and distinguished author Mitch Kowalski, among others.”

A special thanks to our main sponsor, the Law Foundation of British Columbia.
