TRU is committed to keeping trees as healthy as possible and these tree mulching events are part of the TRU Campus Tree program.

Students, staff and faculty volunteers will be rewarded with cookies and the satisfaction of seeing campus trees continue to flourish during four tree mulching events on:

• Wednesday, Aug. 16
• Thursday, Aug. 17
• Wednesday, Aug. 23
• Thursday, Aug. 24

 All events are from 10 a.m. to noon in front of the OLARA building.

Adding a layer of bark mulch (organic material) around the base of a tree provides several benefits such as water retention, protection from root damage, weed suppression, and an increase in soil improvement.

A total of thirty volunteers are needed each day.

Gloves will be provided but volunteers should bring their own water, hats and comfortable shoes.

If you would like to volunteer, please register by Friday, Aug. 11 by emailing sustain@tru.ca and putting “Tree mulching volunteer” in the subject line.

The next campus tree planting event will be on National Tree Day on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023.
