Wildfire is a growing socioeconomic concern in the minds of Canadians.
With climate change and extreme weather days, wildfire occurrences are increasing, as are wildfire intensities and areas burned each wildfire season.
How we prepare, respond and recover from such events is an emerging science.
TRU Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Greg Anderson, invites the community and surrounding communities to the lecture series.
The event brings renowned and captivating scientists from various science disciplines to Kamloops to reveal scientific discoveries and their applications, making science accessible to audiences with diverse backgrounds and interests.
Dr. Mike Wotton from Canada Wildfire and the University of Toronto will help our audience understand aspects of wildfire science and its application with a presentation entitled “Advancements in wildfire behavior modelling: Improving fire management decision making.”
In our fall lecture, Dr. Wotton will describe advancements in understanding wildfire behaviour and modelling that are being incorporated into the next generation of the Canadian Forest Fire Behaviour Prediction System — a system used by fire managers throughout Canada for more than three decades.
