TRU and Kamloops community members are invited to attend a multi-sensory experience presented by Dr. Lyn Baldwin, from TRU’s Faculty of Science, as she marries art and word to reconcile relationships between plants and peoples.
On Tuesday, March 21, Baldwin presents her lecture titled An unquiet botany: Reconciling plants and people with story and image at TRU’s Inaugural Professorial Lecture series. Baldwin, who was promoted to professor in April 2022, will illustrate a selection of her stories through her field journal art and read an excerpt from her forthcoming book, Drawing Botany Home: A Rooted Life.
Baldwin will further explore the colonial distortion of people’s understanding of and relationship with plants. She explains how this ‘plant blindness’ can be reconciled by learning not just about plants, but from them through the story, art and science documented in field journals.
TRU’s Inaugural Professorial Lectures publicly celebrate a major milestone in the academic careers of the university’s newly appointed tripartite professors. These lectures provide an opportunity for the public to meet new professors and to gain an understanding of their scholarship, research and teaching.
The series is organized by TRU’s Professorial Lecture Committee, with generous support from the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.
There is limited seating attendance at this event, please email trueventsandceremonies@tru.ca.
