News Nibbles: Meet our staff

January 21, 2022

Did you know that the majority of our staff are students? Our TRU Food Services staff have emphasized that the convenience of being able to work on campus, the flexibility in shifts and the opportunity to meet other students and community members are some of the best parts of the job.

We currently have five students in full-time roles, 49 students in part-time roles and five alumni working on campus. We would like to introduce you to a few of our fantastic staff members:

Jackson Rodrigues

Jackson Rodrigues

Jackson is an international student from India pursing his Master of Business Administration. Jackson’s favourite part of working on campus was originally for the convenience and to earn some part-time income. However, after his first few weeks, he discovered the best part is interacting with fellow students and feeling more involved and part of the campus.

Jackson’s favourite drink is Canada’s very own Tim Horton’s French Vanilla, which he recommends with an extra shot of espresso. He didn’t narrow down a favourite dish, but rather emphasizes there is a plethora of options when it comes to food, from wraps at the Workbench to the BMT sub at Subway to the Monterey jack bacon and mushroom burger at The Den.

Jackson’s bite-size advice for those eating on campus is the use the Hey Chef app to order food and skip the line. Say hello to Jackson by visiting our Subway location on the first floor of the International building.

Andie Byrne

Andie is in her last semester studying English and Creative Writing and has been with our catering department since 2017. Her favourite thing about working on campus is absolutely the people; from the TRU Food Services team to the clients and guests at events. She loves the chance to interact with repeat clients, learn their favourite items from the menu and make their events special for them.

Andie’s favourite drink is an iced chai from Starbucks, no matter the time of the year. She had a harder time narrowing down her favourite dish because there are so many food service options on campus, but her go-to is the diablo chicken wrap with yam fries from The Den.

Her bite-size advice for those eating on campus is to visit The Den, noting that even if you don’t have time to sit down and eat, there are now daily take-out specials. She also recommends the Hey Chef app to skip the line and get your food faster.

Favour Nneji

Favour Nneji

Favour is an international student from Nigeria in her fourth year of her Bachelor of Business program, where she is studying economics. Favour’s favourite part of working on campus is the flexibility and convenience that comes with it.

Favour’s favourite drink is a strawberry acai refresher from Starbucks. She was unable to pick a favourite dish because there are so many that she likes.

Her bite-size advice for those eating on campus is to try a double-smoked bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich from Starbucks because it is popular and super delicious. Swing by Starbucks for a refreshing beverage and say hello to Favour.

We have so many wonderful staff working around campus. Stop by any of our Food Services locations to get to know them better.
