The 2016-17 Graduate Research Mentors and Undergraduate Research Ambassadors have been selected and are currently participating in training sessions designed to equip them with the tools necessary to engage in peer-to-peer development opportunities.
Students were chosen based on their previous and/or ongoing participation in research.
“Mentors and Ambassadors will work together, collaborating with faculty and students across disciplines, pooling their resources to help build a unique culture of graduate and undergraduate research at TRU,” said Sukh Heer Matonovich, Manager of Graduate Studies and Student Research.
This is the second year these opportunities have been available, and they operate under the principle of students guiding students toward success.
Graduate Mentors develop and coordinate workshops, training opportunities and networking events, including TRU’s annual Three Minute Thesis competition and the Graduate Research Symposium that takes place each spring. Undergraduate Ambassadors assist with the annual Undergraduate Research Conference, and will advise fellow students on research-related opportunities through public talks, workshops and orientation activities.
Mentors receive a $7,000 fellowship, while Undergraduate Research Ambassadors receive $3,000.
