KAMLOOPS—Thompson Rivers University and the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association (TRUFA) have reached an agreement consistent with the provincial government’s Economic Stability Mandate.

Covering the five-year period from April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2019, the agreement provides for a 5 percent general wage increase, and .50 percent to be applied to sessional salaries over the term which is in keeping with the fixed fiscal envelope of the mandate.

“I am pleased that the TRU Faculty Association and TRU Board of Governors have ratified the tentative agreement. Both bargaining committees worked exceptionally long and hard during this process and I thank them for their diligence in working towards an outcome that benefits our students and which will be a foundation for progress at TRU,” said Alan Shaver, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor.

“Our faculty members are the core of the university. The faculty and staff are dedicated to creating an engaging and supportive educational environment that promotes student success and excellence both academically and professionally as well as the creation of new knowledge for the benefit of all people,” Shaver continued in a message sent to all TRU employees on Monday, Feb. 15. “During this bargaining process we have seen the need to continue the dialogue.”

The agreement affects approximately 650 instructors, librarians, counsellors, educational coordinators and learning specialists on campuses in Kamloops and Williams Lake.

This is the final group of employees to reach a settlement with TRU. In September 2015 an agreement was reached with the 400 members of CUPE, and in January 2015 an agreement with the TRU Opening Learning Faculty Association was ratified. Read more details on bargaining updates here.
