Making parking profitable for a Vancouver hotel landed four TRU tourism marketing degree students first place in their category at the annual LinkB case competitions and BC Tourism Industry Conference and awards gala.

The case: Ramada Limited Downtown Vancouver wanted to turn its parking from unprofitable to profitable.

This marked the third year TRU came home with hardware. Winning teams received plaques and $500 each and all competing students received certificates and passes to the conference.

TRU was also represented by three students in the diploma category, but despite its best efforts, the team didn’t make the top 3.

The diploma team was made of Karol Ruiz, Yolanda Yalei Zhou, and Mariya Goncharuk. The degree team: Iris Elias, Ilka Paola, Alina Grynevsky, and Rohit Michael Magima.

Corey Sigvaldason and Billy Collins served as coaches, with this being Sigvaldason’s second year and Collins’ first.

The competitions, conference and awards gala connects faculty and students to industry and the other way around. This year drew more than 450 delegates, presenters, students and award winners.
