Gender diversity will be celebrated later this month during TRU Students’ Union’s Pride Awareness Week.
The theme for the week is the Genderbread Person, a term popularized online helping to explain non-binary representations and the different elements making us who we are in terms of gender, orientation and sexuality.
What follows is a list of events. Watch this space as well as TRU’s online events calendar as more may be added.
March 30: Attraction and Orientation
Information table, Student Street, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Learn about diversity of human attraction while creating your own rainbow bag of goodies.
March 31: Biological Sex
Information table, Student Street, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Play a game to earn prizes, while gaining further understanding of our diverse bodies.
April 1: Gender Identity
Information table, Student Street, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Another day of games, prizes, and learning how our brains define who we are.
April 1: Two spirits movie
IB 1015, 7-9pm, free admission
Watch a documentary about traditional Navajo and indigenous gender beliefs. A discussion will follow.
Popcorn and pop will be available while quantities last.
April 2: Gender Expression
Cookie decorating and eating, TRUSU Board Room, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Create your own Genderbread person-shaped cookie and explore all the ways of showing the world who you are.
