Sleepy students make for stressed students

October 31, 2013

There are many resources on the web for sleep hygiene; the most important thing to is finding credible sources. We have decided to take some of the work out for you! Here is a list of some of the great websites available:

University of Maryland: http://umm.edu/programs/sleep/patients/sleep-hygiene

National Sleep Foundation: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/article/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene

Canadian Sleep Society: http://www.canadiansleepsociety.ca/publisher/articleview/frmArticleID/341/

University Health Network: http://www.uhn.ca/docs/HealthInfo/Shared%20Documents/Sleep_Hygiene_Helpful_Hints_to_Make_You_Sleep_Better.pdf

UBC Wellness Centre: http://www.students.ubc.ca/livewelllearnwell/learn-about-wellness/sleep-nutrition-exercise/lack-of-sleep/

That UBC one is really great for students as it ties in how sleep, or lack of, affects your GPA.

Results from our own National College Health Assessment say that sleep disturbances was in the top three reasons for poor academic performance.

Counseling could also be a good option if stress is the reason for your sleeplessness. http://www.tru.ca/studentservices/counsel.html gives more info on our campus’ services. And the Wellness Centre is a great place to relax and find more info on stress and sleep! OM 1482
