Dietary-friendly selections

Demand has increased for more dietary-friendly options on campus. TRU Food Services has listened, expanded and improved our menus to include more vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and halal options.

Below are some of the best locations on campus to find food options that meet your dietary needs. Check out all of our nine locations on campus for a great selection of hot and cold entrees, grab-and-go snacks and dessert options. Click on “Food and Drink” in the TRU Go app for a quick overview of options and hours.

The U&M Deli

Centrally located on the second floor of Old Main, The University and Main Deli offers vegetarian and vegan daily selections. For vegetarians, the deli case always includes vegetable samosas served warm or cold, greek salad and  chickpea and feta salad.

For vegans, the deli case always includes a couscous tabbouleh salad, or for a more filling option try our falafel rice bowl—served with hummus, tahini, pickles, pickled cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and olives. A great selection of rotating vegan options varies from week to week, so stop by to check the day’s offerings.

A campus favourite, our gluten-free butter chicken is made with halal chicken.

Upper Level Café & Bento Sushi

Located on the second floor of Old Main, the Upper Level Café and Bento Sushi is another great stop on campus for vegetarian options. Try out fresh vegetarian sushi, spring rolls and hot rice bowls, made on site daily. Check out the Express items for grab-and-go vegan snacks.

Urban Market

Located on the second floor of the Campus Activity Centre, the Urban Market offers a variety of dietary-friendly options. This location is best known for its open flame pizza oven, which can cook up a gluten-free pizza made fresh to order.

New this fall, the Chop N Top station is the perfect stop for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free guests. You can choose from one of our signature selections, or create a custom salad or wrap. There are many different delicious combinations to be created.

Looking for a hot entrée? The Urban Market offers a daily vegetarian/vegan hot entrée. Vegetarian options include tortellini marinara, chipotle mac and cheese, cheese ravioli with spinach alfredo, and spinach and feta cannelloni. Vegan options include sweet and sour harvest lentils with rice, tofu and eggplant stew with rice and butternut squash, and our hearty black bean chili.

The Den

Located on the second floor of the Campus Activity Center, The Den offers a number of pub-style vegetarian options on the menu. Looking for a vegan or gluten-free option? No problem, ask your server as several of the menu options can be adjusted.

Bean Me Up (the Pod), International Café and Trades Café

These three locations offer some great grab-and-go vegan snack options such as the market green salad, fruit cups and Sabra hummus or guacamole cups. They also serve our delicious gluten-free brownies!
