Join us on Thursday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. for the environmental science seminar series with Dr. Brian Heise.
Details of the seminar:
Invasive fishes in B.C. are causing economic and ecological damage to freshwater ecosystems, including threatening important sport and commercial trout and salmon fisheries.
In this talk, the speaker will focus on the ecology (diet, movement, reproduction and low oxygen tolerance) of invasive smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and goldfish.
He will discuss possible solutions, including the use of rotenone, electrofishing during fish spawning season, spearfishing and public education.
He will make the case that researchers should share their findings with the public through the media, illustrating with my positive experience addressing the goldfish infestations in the province.
