Explore the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) Food Sovereignty Garden and learn more about Indigenous land stewardship, land-based learning, healing properties of plants, and make your own traditional healing tea!
This offering is led by members of the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Project at the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc site, in collaboration with the Leona (Doe) Thomas, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Elder, and the TRU Wellness Centre. Transportation to and from the food sovereignty garden site is generously being provided by Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, funded through an Everyone Eats grant.
The TRU Wellness Centre will provide lunch for participants. Please dress appropriately for the weather (layers are best).
Registration is required – there is a maximum of 25 participants, so please register as soon as possible

Itinerary:
- 9:25 am – Please arrive at the TRU round-about near the Campus Activity Centre and Trades Buildings (where University Drive, Sk’lep Trail, and Campus Drive all meet). We will take attendance and start to board the TteS bus. (If you want to drive yourself, please make note on the on-line registration form.)
- 9:35 am – Bus departs TRU for the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Food Sovereignty Garden
- 9:50 am – Bus arrives at Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Food Sovereignty Garden. Connect with Food Sovereignty Leaders.
- 10:00 am – Territorial Acknowledgement, Welcome from TteS.
- 10:15 am – 12:00 pm – Berry Walk led by Food Sovereignty Team. As we tour the garden space, they will discuss their amazing local projects. They will also teach us about land stewardship, permaculture, food forests, and introduce some dried herbs and medicines they have harvested. Participants will have an opportunity to create their own tea blend to take home.
- 12:00 – 12:50 pm – Lunch and connection, complete tea blends.
- 12:50 pm – Load bus to return to TRU
- 1:15 pm – arrive back at TRU
