Big ideas take the stage as Thompson Rivers University (TRU) faculty share their research and creative work with the community at the fifth annual Little Lectures, Big Ideas.

Presented by the Faculty of Arts and TRU Alumni, the free public lecture series features TED-style talks that showcase the diverse work of arts faculty in an engaging and accessible format.

Little Lectures, Big Ideas debuted in 2022 and has become an annual opportunity for the community to hear from TRU researchers and explore ideas spanning the humanities and social sciences.

Dr. Sheba Rahim and Dr. Thom Vernon — From Digital Humanities to Human Connection: Using Digital Tools for Creative and Critical Research and Teaching

Rahim and Vernon explore how digital tools and creative technologies are changing storytelling, research and teaching — and how an increasingly digital world can reveal what is uniquely human.

Dr. Alana Toulin — A Seat at the Table: How Restaurants Made Modern Urban America

From lunch counters to fine dining, Toulin explores how restaurants have shaped public life and the economy since the late 19th century, and how eating out became central to work and leisure in urban America.

Dr. Cory Gerritsen — Recovering in Solitude

People who are segregated in correctional settings and people who are secluded on psychiatric units have two things in common: they are in especially high need of therapeutic care, and are in places where the delivery of care is extremely challenging. Gerritsen examines what health-care providers can do to address the dilemma.
