Deans Cup Moot by the Trial Lawyers Association of BC
The Oral Advocacy Club recently organized the Dean’s Cup Moot by the Trial Lawyers Association of BC, an internal moot competition. Oral advocacy is valued at TRU Law and the students embrace these opportunities to learn and improve themselves.
Between Jan. 25 to Feb. 2, 13 teams of two (26 students in total) participated in the moot, with 20 of them being first-year law students.
The competition was judged by members of the bench and bar and many TRU Law alumni joined in. Justice Len Marchand judged one team during the semi-final rounds. The judges provided constructive feedback and were complimentary of the students’ efforts.
Charn Sidhu and Harman Sandhu (Team 216R) were placed first, followed by team 211A, Jaewon Shin and Mackenzie Do. The third place went to Daniel Bunting and Kirah Janzen (Team 202R).
Congratulations to all winners and those who were placed. It was so encouraging to see the students compete and conduct themselves with dignity and distinction.
Thank you to the moot sponsors, the Trial Lawyers Association of BC (TLABC), Paul and Company and Richards Buell Sutton. It was a great honour to have the acting CEO of the TLABC, Karen St Aubin, and the president, Michael Elliot, as guests of honour at the final competition.
Thanks also to the Oral Advocacy Club. Kendra Hewson, Carson Puetz, Rosina Hamoni, Luke Conkin and Dennis Tarasenko, who poured their hearts into this competition and did themselves proud.
