Law students Jaewon Shin and A. J. Roberts represented TRU Law at the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition in San Diego recently. The team members negotiated a book deal and broadcasting rights related to sports. The team was coached by TRU Law alum Karen Perry and Jesse Olynyk, who participated in the competition themselves in 2017
The coaches said Shin and Roberts were “able to hold firm to their client’s interests while proposing creating solutions that got the judges’ attention.”
The competition was created by sports and academic professionals to give law students a realistic experience negotiating matters vital to the modern sports law industry. The goal is to provide the legal profession with able legal minds ready to contribute to advising, transactional and litigation practices that handle matters relating to sports.
