Dear Colleagues,

Last month, I received the final report of the Student Services Review Task Force, and I am pleased to share it with you now.

This report concludes the first phase of work that TRU initiated in 2015 upon receiving the Budget Consultation Report from the TRU Students’ Union (TRUSU); the TRUSU report indicated students’ desire for improved academic advising and better coordinated student services.

At that time, President Shaver asked Dean of Students Christine Adam to chair a task force that would make recommendations for improving academic support services (including academic advising) and campus life programming. The task force engaged the services of Keeling and Associates to review current services and programming and to make recommendations for improvements. A prioritization of those recommendations is presented in the attached report, as well as actions currently underway.

The report also makes recommendations to me for monitoring and reporting on progress toward implementing these actions. I have considered these recommendations and have asked the Dean of Students and Mike Bluhm, AVP – Enrolment Manager and University Registrar, to report annually by April 30 on progress. A reporting tool, and a copy of the attached report, will be added to the Provost’s website by April 30 of this year.

I would like to thank all members of the task force for their hard work and dedication to the review and look forward to seeing the implementation of the recommendations designed to better support our students.

Kind regards,

Christine Bovis-Cnossen
Provost and Vice-President Academic
