ECE faculty resist the commercialization of childhood

September 19, 2016

Cindy Piwowar and Connie Alger, Lecturers in the Early Childhood Education Program, School of Education (Faculty of Education and Social Work), will present at the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society annual conference in Vancouver in November 2016 on “The commercialization of childhood: Fighting back with unconventional toys.” Piwowar and Alger will explore how, in the face of the advertising industry’s commitment of billions of dollars annually to make consumers of children, early childhood educators can apply their knowledge and skills to teach children to create rather than consume.
