“This is a moment of real possibility,” Dr. Will Garrett-Petts told the crowd of TRU faculty members during the third annual Research Day event held on Sept. 17.
The Associate Vice-President of Research and Graduate Studies was speaking to the fact that TRU has identified research as one of its five strategic priorities, and is in the implementation stage of its five-year Strategic Research Plan. More researchers than ever before are applying for federal funding, all while maintaining a vibrant and creative teaching and learning environment.
“Possibility, hard work and capacity are all coming together,” said Garrett-Petts, whose comments were echoed by TRU’s new Provost and Vice President Academic Dr. Christine Bovis-Cnossen.
“I am really impressed by the breadth and depth of research taking place here, and how the research here is positively impacting the places, spaces and people in our community,” she said.
Research Day provided an opportunity for faculty members to learn about new initiatives, including the new Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, and the new Research Groups and Centres Fund, and served as the showcase for the new TRU Research Storyteller campaign, featuring TRU scholars discussing the focus and the impact of their research.
