TRU’s dean of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism, Rob Hood, plans to cycle across much of Canada this summer in memory of his daughter, Maddie Hood, who was murdered in 2012 in St. Catherine’s Ont. at the age of 19.

Hood will be accompanied by his son Andrew Hood and their trip will begin in Vancouver around the third week in May and end sometime in Halifax this summer.

“It’s going to be challenging and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” says Andrew, who figures each day could range from 100 to 150 kilometres. Of course that all depends on how they are feeling and what kind of weather conditions they encounter. Storms and prairie winds could cut their daily target by half or more.

Their trip will be briefly interrupted in Winnipeg sometime in early June when they return to Kamloops by plane in time for Andrew’s Convocation on June 11 from the Bachelor of Fine Arts program.

Along the way they will be staying with friends and family and be raising money for the United Way, an organization of interest to Maddie.

Listen to a CBC Radio interview about the trip.
