Study Abroad Ambassador: Kamal in France

December 11, 2012

The Study Abroad Exchange Program allows students to live and study in a different country for one or two semesters. Students earn credits towards fulfilling degree goals while travelling at the same time.

Give yourself an advantage in this increasingly complex and globalized world.

Where in the world can I go?

Name: Kamal Kaur
Host Destination: Université Catholique de Lyon, France
Study Abroad take-away: Life’s mishaps make for interesting stories.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the TRU Newsroom will feature one or more of the 2012-13 Study Abroad Ambassadors. One of this week’s profiles is Kamal.

I was on my own in a completely unfamiliar place, with nobody to hold my hand, while I ventured across this narrow bridge of independence. Traveling independently tested and strengthened my organizational skills, my street smarts, and my ability to view the many mishaps such as annoying overfilled public transport facilities as potentially funny anecdotes instead.

I opened up to the culture from the start, and in turn, it filled me entirely with everything it had: a history, people, a language, a set of customs and traditions, and a way to live, eat, drink, and breathe.

Personal growth and development are key components of the university years and I am convinced that the Study Abroad program offers endless possibilities towards those ends.
