CBC British Columbia | Kamloops, B.C., zoo sheltering 92 snakes displaced by Trans Mountain pipeline construction

In October, B.C. Wildlife Park received 92 Great Basin gopher snakes and western yellow-bellied racers displaced from Lac du Bois due to the Trans Mountain pipeline construction. The area is also habitat for the threatened Western rattlesnake. Karl Larsen, TRU professor of natural resource sciences, has done research on the Western rattlesnake. While Larsen has not communicated with Trans Mountain, he looks forward to working with the company on rebuilding the snakes’ hibernacula (shelters occupied by snakes during winter dormancy) where they can be releases back.
