Bruce Martin — Why every business should be a social enterprise: Bringing business back to society

Dr. Bruce Martin, professor with TRU's Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics

Everyone from the TRU and Kamloops communities are invited to the first Inaugural Professorial Lecture of 2023. The lecture is being given by Dr. Bruce Martin from the Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics. Martin was promoted to professor in July 2021.

TRU’s Inaugural Professorial Lectures publicly celebrate a major milestone in the academic careers of the university’s newly appointed tripartite professors. Inaugural Professorial Lectures provide an opportunity for the public to meet new professors and to gain an understanding of their scholarship, research and teaching.

Martin’s research interest focuses on the creation and growth of next generation ethical organizations: businesses that produce social, environmental and commercial value for society.

In this lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 7, “Why every business should be a social enterprise: Bringing business back to society,” Martin introduces some of his latest collaborative research on the topic of social enterprise. Martin believes that social enterprise holds promise for improving the way business is conducted overall. He argues that social enterprise has the potential to transform the meaning of business. No longer will business revolve solely around maximizing shareholder profits but it will instead produce the goods and services individuals need in a way which will enhance life for everyone and everything.

TRU’s Inaugural Professorial Lectures are organized by TRU’s Professorial Lecture Committee, with generous support from the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.

There is limited seating attendance at this event, please RSVP by Thursday, Feb. 2.
