TRU’s Alumni Association is collecting photos and memorabilia from anyone who attended the university when it was known as Cariboo College in the ’70s and ’80s.
If you have some cool, kitschy or interesting photos or paraphernalia from Cariboo College in the ’70s and ’80s, the alumni office wants to see it.
Anyone who has these items and would like to donate them is welcome to do so. Those who have items but would like to hang on to them are also encouraged to share. The alumni department is happy to take a photo of your memorabilia or copy photos.
You can find out how to share your items with TRU’s Alumni team by contacting them at alumni@tru.ca.
Since its inception as Cariboo College in 1970, the name and designation of the institution changed to University College of the Cariboo before becoming the current Thompson Rivers University. As a result, many who were at Cariboo College may not consider themselves to be members of the TRU alumni family.
“As TRU approaches its 50th anniversary, we want to ensure those who were part of the early years know that we are proud to include them in the alumni family,” says Arlene Olynyk, manager of Alumni Relations.
The memorabilia and photos will be available for public viewing at the university’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations in 2020, and will be featured on the web until then. Items will also be on display at the TRU Charter Alumni Breakfast on June 2.
Charter alumni can attend the free breakfast on June 2. Charter alumni include anyone who was at Cariboo College in the ’70s and ’80s as a student, staff or faculty member. While the breakfast is free for charter alumni, the Alumni Association charges a $10 fee for any non-charter alumni who would like to attend. Pre-registration is required for anyone planning to attend.
Those who share their memorabilia and photos will be given special recognition and thanks on June 2nd at the Charter Alumni Breakfast and any future instances when the items are displayed.
