KAMLOOPS-UCC has been formally acccepted as a memberof the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) to begin play in September2005.
A vote taken June 10, 2004 to admit UCC was unanimous amongst all memberuniversities across Canada (72-0) and was the final step in this institutionbecoming a member of varsity athletics at the highest level of universitycompetition in Canada.
Men’s and women’s teams in both basketball and volleyball will move to CIScompetition, starting September 2005, in the Canada West Conference,competing against UBC, SFU, UVIC and TWU (from BC) and eight otheruniversity programs from the three prairie provinces. UCC’s varsity teams insoccer and badminton will continue to compete in the BC Colleges AthleticAssociation (BCCAA), as well as the varsity baseball program that competesin a separate college league.
UCC athletic director, Ken Olynyk, was also recently elected asvice-president of BCCAA for a two-year term. Thus, as a fully comprehensiveinstitution, UCC continues to participate in the broadest possible spectrumof athletics for the benefit of UCC students.
