TRU Grad Among Increasing Aboriginal Learners

The Vancouver Sun (July 15, 2012) recently featured a TRU graduate as one of the increasing number of Aboriginal Peoples to earn a post-secondary certificates and degrees. Mary Brearly is now working at the Afton mine after completing a trades program though at TRU through the B.C. Aboriginal Mine Training Association last year.
According to the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education there has been a 25 per cent increase in the
number Aboriginal students attending colleges and universities.
In addition, an increasing number of aboriginal youth over the last four years are completing certificate and degree programs in a wide range of fields.  The ministry reports that approximately 2,500 certificates, degrees, and diplomas were awarded in 2010.
Approximately 2400 Aboriginal students are enrolled at TRU in either on campus or online learning programs.
