TRU hosts post-secondary town hall with PHO

May 11, 2021

KAMLOOPS – Thompson Rivers University (TRU) hosted a town hall with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and public sector institution leaders Monday, May 10, as the sector prepares for this fall’s return to in-person classes.

The event included Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Réka Gustafson and Acting Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Brian Emerson.

Vice-President Administration and Finance Matt Milovick, chair of the Go Forward guideline committee, hosted a town hall Monday for more than 400 post-secondary executives and employee-union leaders from throughout the province. The Go Forward guidelines have provided direction to BC’s public sector institutions on populating campuses safely during the pandemic, with new guidelines expected this summer.

The town hall event gave post-secondary officials a chance to ask questions about the draft Go Forward primer, an interim document to support planning for a September return to campus. Their questions and input are integral in helping formulate the new guidelines aimed at keeping students, faculty, and staff safe on BC campuses this fall.

“Everyone’s safety is at the core of the plans underway,” said Milovick. “While the pandemic has been disruptive, we expect by the time students return to campus in September that broad immunization will allow us to live with the virus in a much different and less disruptive way than today.”
