Be cool, Carpool

November 3, 2016

Thinking about retiring your bike for the winter? TRU's new Rideshare program can help you find a carpool—or maybe a cycling buddy to keep you motivated in winter weather.

At TRU we are committed to reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles (SOVs) on the road and in our parking lots. Rideshare, our newest online carpool service for faculty, staff and students, could be the hassle-free answer to your daily commute.

You have tried the carpool thing before but it wasn’t quite right. Your schedules didn’t match up and it became more of an inconvenience than a solution.

So what’s different with Rideshare?

Rideshare is a simple and secure online tool that helps employees and students quickly find carpool partners. Using your home and work addresses, you will be matched to nearby employees and/or students with similar schedules. Your home address will never appear on match lists.

There are great options for regular weekly commuting as well as single trip commutes.

The single trip matching tool is used to find partners to share a ride for one time trips. You can catch an early ride home, plan a carpool to a conference, or share a taxi to this weekend’s game. You and your trip carpool partner(s) benefit by sharing the cost of gas or parking and reduce emissions. You and your carpool partner will work out payment details with one another before embarking on your journey to make the transition as easy and worry-free as possible.

Unsure about driving with strangers?

When you receive your list of matches, you may choose who to contact with no obligations or requirements.

Similar rideshare programs have been used successfully at other Canadian campuses for years. The online program is easy to understand, and simple to use with any digital device. Rideshare isn’t just for vehicle drivers and passengers either; it’s for everyone who commutes to campus in any way.

For a limited time TRU is offering a chance to win an iPad Mini for the first 350 registrants of the service—everyone who registers is automatically entered to win.

The sustainability office and facilities are funding, promoting, and operating the new TRU Rideshare service.
