Hard work, commitment and achievement was celebrated on Oct. 14 when 300 graduates crossed the stage during Fall Convocation.
As some of their supporters steadied their cameras, phones and tablets in the photographer’s area to one side, another 900 applauded and cheered from the stands and floor seating area.
Among the other highlights: Wally Oppal, QC presided over his final ceremony as Chancellor after two terms. He received a certificate of appreciation along with a round of applause and a turn at the microphone for a final speech.
Retired faculty Janine Chan and Gary Hunt were recognized for their years of service, their work in building their teaching areas and for bringing prestige to TRU. Janine Chan received an Educator Emerita and Gary Hunt a Professor Emeritus. Chan retired in 2016 after 25 years in the Allied Health department. Hunt retired in 2016 after 26 years, most recently with Centre for Student Engagement and Learning Innovation and before that with Natural Resource Science.
Held in the Tournament Capital Centre, more than 45 TRU staff assisted with pulling the event together and making it a special day for those receiving certificates, diplomas, baccalaureates and degrees.
