July 8, 2015

The following from TRU President and Vice-Chancellor Alan Shaver announces the appointment of Dr. Michael Henry as the new Dean of the School of Business and Economics.

To the TRU Community:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Henry as the new Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Thompson Rivers University.

Coming to TRU from MacEwan University, where he has been the Associate Dean of the School of Business since 2004, Dr. Henry brings extensive leadership expertise. He developed the school’s Bachelor of Commerce degree, including initiating an outcomes-based Assurance of Learning research project. With the dean, he led the transformation of MacEwan’s two-year college program to an internationalized university degree. He increased the school’s profile nationally and internationally through development of over 30 international academic partnerships, and developed the school’s scholarship and research programs.

He has a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in human resources management from the University of Southern Queensland, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. He completed undergraduate degrees at the University of Ottawa and Brock University. His publication credits include co-editor of Renewable Energy in China: Towards a Green Economy, with editions in both English and Chinese.

Dr. Henry was also a member of the Alberta Legislature for four years, and a former director of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

On behalf of the university, I take this opportunity to thank the members of the search committee, including Ahmad Bisong (student), Hasnat Dewan, Warveni Jap, Bernie Kirkey, Ehsan Latif, Victoria Martin, Brenda Mathenia, Alex Ng, Sandy Scarff and Ulrich Scheck (chair) for their insight and diligence.

Dr. Henry will begin his five-year term on August 1, 2015. Please join Dr. Scheck and me in welcoming Dr. Henry to Thompson Rivers University and to Kamloops.

Sincerely,

Alan Shaver
,
President and Vice-Chancellor
