What is a serving of grains anyway?

Did you know that according to the Canada Food Guide adult women are supposed to have 6-7 servings of grains daily and adult men should be consuming 8 servings? That may seem like a lot, but maybe that’s because you don’t know what a TRUE serving size is.

Whole-Grains

Lets put that into perspective:

One roll of sushi (usually 6 pieces) generally contains about a ½ cup of rice = one serving.

The average pasta dish from a restaurant is just over 2 cups = 4 servings.

With a little more serving size awareness, how many servings do you think you eat now?

Most people eat well over the recommended amount, often in lieu of nutrient rich veggies.

The challenge this week is to track your grains intake and the best choice is always a whole grain (brown) choice with lots of fibre.
