Yesterday in the Throne Speech, Premier Christy Clark paid tribute to the passing of Dr. Tom Owen, Director Environment and Sustainability and Dr. Wes Koczka, Associate Vice President, International and CEO Global Operations. They were among 30 civil servants mentioned for their contributions to the province.
In the same speech, delivered by the Honourable Judy Guichon, there were mentions of important contributions post secondary eduction institutions can make towards building a prosperous society. “At Thompson Rivers University, we are eager to enhance our already considerable impact on the BC economy through our teaching and research,” said Alan Shaver, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor, upon hearing the speech in China.
Dr. Shaver is in Shanghai, where he and others from TRU will attend the convocation of students in the joint degree in business administration program between TRU and the Shanghai Institute of Technology. Earlier in the week they attended a similar convocation at the Tianjin University of Technology. TRU graduates more students with this degree in China than in Kamloops and many of those choose to stay in BC.
