If you are a teacher and want to build a fact-based world view. I strongly recommend Gapminder.

It unveils the beauty of statistics. Gapminder’s mission is to “Fighting devastating ignorance with a fact-based worldview everyone understands.”

Gapminder is a not-for-profit organization promoting sustainable global development – “a modern museum on the internet”. Its aim is to use statistics to make aware to the world the issues associated with achieving the United Nations Millennium Development goals. It was founded in Stockholm by Ola Rosling, Anna Rosling Rönnlund and Hans Rosling on February 25, 2005. They developed the Trendalyzer software which converts statistical data into enjoyable, animated and interactive graphics. In March 2007, Google acquired Trendalyzer from the Gapminder Foundation with the Gapminder team joining Google shortly thereafter.

To fulfill their aim, Gapminder’s are currently working on:

  • Keeping the content up-to-date and making time series freely available in Gapminder World.
  • Producing videos, Flash presentations and PDF charts showing major global development trends with animated statistics in colorful graphics.

As they state in the website: “All with the intention of being a “fact tank” that promotes a fact based world view.”
