Research being filmed on campus

January 20, 2016

Elise Paine, a fourth-year student studying cellular molecular microbial biology, speaks to a film crew for Bloomberg TV's series The Spark. The crew was in town on Tuesday profiling the research being done by Dr. Ann Cheeptham, pictured at right.

A film crew from Bloomberg TV spent time with Dr. Ann Cheeptham this week, first filming her on site where she gathers her samples from a cave in Chilliwack, BC, and then in her lab on campus. Cheeptham’s research explores cave microorganisms and their potential for new drug development. Her research has been profiled on Global TV’s 16X9 and CBC’s The Nature of Things. Another film crew from Al Jazeera will arrive on campus in February. In the fall, Dr. Cheeptham, along with TRU Adjunct Professor and Wildlife Conservation Society of Canada biologist Dr. Cori Lausen were awarded a $75, 000 (USD) research grant from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to advance the research for effective biological control options against the fungus that causes White Nose Syndrome in North American bats.
