MMIWG – REDress calendar and art show

The TRU Faculty Association’s Decolonization, Reconciliation and Indigenization Committee (DRISC) has collaborated with two artists, Colleen Seymour of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and a TRU Master of Education graduate Charlene Barnes, to create a 13-month calendar from September 2023 to September 2024.

What will be profiled each month:

  • Original artwork alternating months on the calendar
  • Secwepemctsín and English language
  • QR code to pronounce the Secwepemctsín words – narrated by the late Simpc Elder and TRU Honorary degree recipient Mona Jules
  • QR code for the full two 131 Calls to Justice for MMIWG
  • Two educators, health, First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples or governments

Wednesday, Oct. 4 is the National Day for Action on the issues of MMIWG in Canada.

On this day, the TRU Art Gallery will have an exhibit of the original artwork in the calendar and they will be for sale.

All proceeds from the calendar and artwork sales will support MMIWG initiatives at TRU.

Twenty-five calendars will be available for purchase at the TRU Bookstore for $20 each on Friday, Sept. 22.
