The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Board of Governors and the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association (TRUFA) have ratified a new collective agreement that supports a strong and sustainable future for faculty, staff and students.

The agreement was reached under the BC government’s 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate, which guides public-sector bargaining across the province and supports stable public services, labour stability and responsible fiscal management. The mandate provides for annual general wage increases and recognizes the importance of attracting and retaining skilled employees who deliver critical public services.

Approximately 1,020 faculty members are represented by TRUFA — a member of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators Local 2 — and work in Kamloops and Williams Lake as faculty instructors, counsellors, librarians and instructional support.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • a four-year term from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2029;
  • general wage increases of three per cent annually in each year of the agreement, consistent with the provincial bargaining mandate; and
  • negotiated enhancements that include Health Benefit improvements, targeted adjusted per diem rates and stipend rates, increase in Professional Development Allowances for faculty, access to release time for both bipartite and tripartite faculty members to enhance their research or scholarship, and additional funding for equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“Through respectful and collaborative bargaining, we have reached an agreement that supports our members and the university community, I congratulate both TRU and TRUFA negotiating teams for their hard work and dedication,” says TRU President Airini.

Negotiations under the 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate support government’s key priorities to protect and strengthen critical services in B.C.’s public sector, to maintain labour stability in a complex round of bargaining and to support the Province’s efforts to find operational efficiencies that preserve front-line services.
