In recognition of Black History Month, TRU welcomes Dr. Marva Ferguson, associate professor in the Faculty of Child Studies and Social Work at Mount Royal University for their talk, “Silencing and Silent in Fugitive Spaces: Promoting Civility and Anti-Racist Discourse in Academia.”
Dr. Ferguson’s talk addresses racism and anti-racism in the contexts of Black faculty, staff and students and asks the question: how do we teach students to advocate for social justice in systems of silence and being silenced?
This presentation is intended to align with the principles of initiatives such as the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education.
