The School of Nursing’s first annual peer mentorship event brought together students and faculty members from all four years of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, as well as from the Health Care Assistant program, to create a positive mentoring environment for one another.

Approximately 400 students joined their School of Nursing faculty for this morning event on January 9, featuring presentations from Dean of Nursing Rani Srivastava and Elder Dr. Margaret Vickers Hyslop. Truth and Reconciliation Spirit Bears—Kenkeknem and Ckenmim’elt—were present to remind all students in attendance of the responsibility they hold as future health-care workers to enact and uphold the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and Jordan’s Principle.

The School of Nursing and the Nursing Undergraduate Society adopted the two bears in 2018 as part of an initiative spearheaded by the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada.
