Thompson Rivers University is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Hilton as the new Chief Enrolment Officer. This position has been created to address the challenges of building and managing student enrolments. Hilton will report directly to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, Dr. Mark Evered.

Since 1995 Hilton has worked at Jonkoping University in Sweden, where he established a strong record of success in building enrolments. He served as the director of recruitment and director of international Relations at Jonkoping International Business School, and in the university’s Business Creation Group as director of strategic international partnerships.

“We are extremely pleased that Peter is joining our student recruitment and support team,” Dr. Evered said. “Given his past record of success in building enrolments, I know that Thompson Rivers University will benefit from his knowledge and experience.”

In addition to his experience at Jonkoping, Hilton taught English at Glenlyon-Norfolk Secondary School, grades 8-12, in Victoria, BC and then moved into a series of government policy positions. He worked as: a policy analyst for Aboriginal issues with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, BC; a policy analyst for Native Self-Government issues with the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, BC; and was Manager for Technology Programs, BC Ministry of Higher Education.

“My family and I are thrilled to be moving back to Canada,” Hilton said. “We chose Kamloops for being a great community town, and we chose Thompson Rivers University, in particular, for its reputation of being very student focussed and student friendly.”

Besides his wealth of experience, Hilton’s credentials include a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, in English and American Languages and Literatures; a Master of Education from Harvard, specializing in Administration, Planning and Social Policy; and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria , focusing on Higher Education and Aboriginal Affairs.
