Conservative Economics a Myth?

An economics professor and author will present a public lecture on “The Myth of Conservative Economics” next Tuesday at Thompson Rivers University as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the offices of the Provost and VP Academic and the AVP Research and Graduate Studies.

Dr. Robert Chernomas, a Professor of Economics at the University of Manitoba, has published in both the academic and popular literature with respect to macroeconomics, the history of economic thought, health care economics and in the area of the socio-economic determinants of health.

He is the author of two books, The Cancer Epidemic as a Social Event (with Lissa Donner) and Social Murder and Other Shortcomings of Conservative Economics (with Ian Hudson) and numerous scholarly and popular articles, and is currently writing a book entitled, Who Is Out to Change Post-Secondary Education and Why?

He has lectured in Canada, the U.S., China, Africa and Europe, and as a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University and Bucknell University. He is the President of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association, is a member of the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and is currently a board member of the Council of Canadians.

He will speak at 7 pm on March 11 in the Alumni Theatre, located in TRU’s Clock Tower building. His presentation is free and the public is invited to attend.
