KAMLOOPS-The Board of Governors is pleased to announce today that the contract of President Roger Barnsley has been renewed for a new five-year term, effective December 2004. Dr. Barnsley’s salary remains the same.

The new contract will see Roger Barnsley through to retirement at the end of 2009 as President of Thompson Rivers University. As part of the renewal process, the Board has also approved a two-year exception to the existing retirement policy for President Barnsley, as it did last year for several members of faculty who wished to serve the institution beyond age 65.

Board Chair Ron Olynyk, in making the announcement on behalf of the Board, said “we are very pleased that Roger Barnsley will continue to lead our institution through the exciting transition to BC’s newest provincial university. We are confident that his leadership and vision for new initiatives over the next five years will establish Thompson Rivers University as one of the greatest success stories in post-secondary education today.”

President Barnsley will officially be installed as President of the new Thompson Rivers University on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at ceremonies marking the official launch of TRU in Kamloops.
