For the second year in a row, dozens of Indonesian students will be in Kamloops for much of June as they immerse themselves in Canadian culture.

Last year 140 students from the International Islamic Education Council (IIEC) in Indonesia were here for part of May and much of June as they attended classes and took in a range of activities. And as a way of saying “thank you” to everyone, the students put on a final performance at TRU’s Alumni Theatre. This time around, 182 are scheduled to be in town.

This year, students will be in Kamloops for 29 days from May 28 to June 27. Among the highlights will be a cultural performance for the community on June 21 at the Sagebrush Theatre from 1-3:30pm. View or download the full-size poster.

“We are researching very complex problems here at TRU that will only be solved by taking an interdisciplinary and international approach,” said Dr. Alan Shaver, TRU President and Vice-Chancellor last summer during a ceremony to extend the agreement. “Indonesia is a distinctive and vibrant country and this agreement offers another dimension to the globalization of our campus.”

At that ceremony, said Sri Indah Permata, Vice President, IIEC, said: “We have noticed such a change in the students that were here in June. Not only did they receive proper academic education and improve their English skills, these students came home with greater confidence.”
