TRU Board of Governors Elects New Chair

Thompson Rivers University Board of Governors has elected Fiona Chan to a one-year term as chair at its regular annual election.

“It is a great honour to have this trust bestowed upon me,” said Chan, who was originally appointed to the Board of Governors in November 2009. “I thank the Board in providing me with this opportunity to serve in this capacity and be a part of the vision of this great institution of ours.”

Fiona Chan is the Branch Manager of the Business Development of Canada (BDC) for the Kamloops and Cranbrook Branches. She has served in various roles with BDC including Senior Auditor, Operations; Manager, Major Accounts; and Senior Manager Loans. In the past, she was the Vice President, Commercial Team Head with Bank of America (Asia) Ltd. in Hong Kong. Active in the community, Ms. Chan is currently the Chair with Venture Kamloops; and is the Past President of the Kamloops West Rotary Club. Previously, she was a former member and Chair with the University College of the Cariboo Foundation, and a former Director and Treasurer with the Kamloops Symphony Society. Ms. Chan holds her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Ms. Chan will replace Karl deBruijn who has completed his six-year term with the Board, serving as Chair since October 2009.

Michael Parker, a Partner with Becker Daley LLP Chartered Accountants, was re-elected to the position of vice-chair, a position he has held since October 2009.
