TRU bestowed Professor Tsigaris with the 2013-2014 Environmental Achievement Award.
The award recognizes individuals within the Thompson Rivers community that have made or are currently making remarkable contributions to environmental sustainability.
Peter Tsigaris has been instrumental in advancing the goal of environmental sustainability at Thompson Rivers University. Peter has written high impact publications for Science Daily and National Geographic, the Journal of Environment and Development Economics, the Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics, The Journal of Sustainability Education, The Journal of Regulatory Economics and many others. He has created and instructed undergraduate and graduate courses such as the economics of climate change, ecological economics and special topics in environmental management. Peter has developed economic sustainability classroom games to enhance students learning. He supervised and published papers with graduate and undergraduate students in the area. During his time at TRU he has led the creation of a successful minor in environmental economics and sustainable development which is offered across most TRU disciplines, and the recent leadership in environmental sustainability certificate to recognize students’ co-curricular learning. Currently, Peter is taking a lead in developing a Master of Science in Economic Sustainable Management program. Furthermore, he was Chair of the Environmental Advisory Committee of Senate and the Board from 2010-2013. He was a founding member of the TRU Eco-Friendly Committee in 2006 and served on many other sustainability committees. By enhancing student knowledge through the expansion of his own scholarship, program development and service, Peter is giving students the tools to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges in economic and environmental sustainability.
