In an exciting collaboration, the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) recently launched the Academic Readiness Program, designed to enhance athletes’ academic and athletic growth.
The program offers BCHL athletes access to TRU’s flexible online courses, helping them balance education with hockey commitments. It prepares athletes for NCAA and U Sports environments with strategic resources.
“Thompson Rivers University is pleased to partner with the BCHL to support the academic goals of these high-level players,” said Shannon Wagner, TRU’s interim provost and vice-president academic. “This collaboration gives BCHL athletes greater access to flexible, high-quality online courses that can be pursued alongside their hockey commitments, helping them build a strong foundation for success both on and off the ice.”
In collaboration with the Athlete Development Alliance, the initiative provides expert guidance and affordable education options through TRU and the American Public University System.
This partnership underscores TRU’s dedication to expanding access to quality learning, ensuring athletes develop essential skills for their future success.
