KAMLOOPS–Scholarships and bursaries change the lives of students who have the potential to do great things. Helping these students so they can create a better world is the goal of the Thompson Rivers University Foundation Breakfast.
This year, the breakfast featured the School of Business and Economics (SoBE) and the people who support that department. RBC Royal Bank sponsored this year’s breakfast and two students from SoBE shared their stories.
Those students were Haley Coss, in the Bachelor of Business Administration—Accounting program, who won the KPMG Student Scholars to Business Scholarship ($5,000) and Hemisha Sanghvi, a Post Baccalaureate—Finance student who received the RBC Student Scholars to Business Scholarship ($5,000). Both students were awarded for their top academic standing and are also granted employment opportunities as part of their scholarships.
Guests at the breakfast were encouraged to join the momentum of the Limitless Future of TRU campaign. Last month, TRU publicly launched the campaign, announcing that $41 million has been raised. The Limitless goal is $50 million by the end of 2020, TRU’s 50th anniversary.
The breakfast kicked off the foundation’s third annual TRU Day of Giving, which raises $36,000 in 36 hours. An exciting incentive was announced at the breakfast: For every $1 donated in the Day of Giving, another $1 will be donated to student awards by longtime foundation donors Roland and Anne Neave. The Neaves generously offered to contribute up to $25,000 to match the total Day of Giving donations.
Anyone who wants to donate toward the Day of Giving can do so online at tru.ca/dayofgiving.
