It’s open season on WriteAway. The BC-wide service, available to Open Learning (OL) students, is open for the winter semester from Jan. 15 to Apr. 9, 2018. If you are an OL student and writing comes as a challenge to you, now is the time to take advantage of this free service.

WriteAway is offered through TRU’s Writing Centre. It connects eligible students with qualified tutors from TRU and 15 other participating institutions. This service is available to all TRU Open Learning undergraduate students.

WriteAway tutors respond to your questions about writing and grammar and give feedback on your writing. Response time is usually within 48 hours.

It’s simple to use this service. From the Writing Centre’s home page on the TRU website, go to Open Learning Writing Support and create your eTutoring account. Once you have logged in, you can either send an eQuestion (a quick one about writing or grammar) or else click the eWriting Lab link to upload a writing assignment draft. A tutor reads your assignment and writes feedback, then uploads this response to the eTutoring platform. You receive a notification by email.

Between semesters, when WriteAway is not available, you can use Writing Centre Online by booking an appointment through the Writing Centre and uploading your writing work for review. In 2018, Writing Centre Online will be open from Apr. 13 to May 18 until WriteAway re-opens on May 21.

TRU students who are not enrolled in Open Learning courses or programs can receive in-person tutoring at the Writing Centre on TRU’s Kamloops campus. You are invited to to register and book up to three 30-minute appointments per week. WriteAway is more specifically for OL students, who may not have the opportunity to receive on-campus, face-to-face tutoring.

The eTutoring platform through which WriteAway was developed by BCcampus toward its goal to promote shared services and collaborative programs. Write Away is hosted by the BC Electronic Library Network (BC ELN).
