A new paper by Dr. Jim Hu, Associate Professor in the English as a Second Language Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) and Alana Hoare, Quality Assurance Coordinator (Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic) explores employers’ expectations regarding writing accuracy of English-as-an-additional-language (EAL) employees, language issues faced by EAL employees with regard to work-related writing, and the impact of writing problems on EAL employees’ employment and career opportunities. Entitled “Employer Perspectives on EAL Employee Writing Problems,” the paper appears in Comparative and International Education. Hu also presented his and Hoare’s research findings this past November as part of the Fall 2016 Faculty of Education and Social Work Research Provocations seminar series.
