Dr. John Church’s research examining the use of drones to track cattle and manage range land was featured in Alberta Farmer Express. According to the article, Church’s research holds “the promise of ushering in a new age of automated, precision technology in the cattle industry.”

The article points specifically to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council-funded collaboration between TRU researchers, researchers at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Golden BC’s Kingsclere Ranch.

“The eastern slopes of the Rockies in Alberta are very similar in a lot of ways to most of the terrain we are having to deal with in BC, so it’s a really good partnership in that way. If we can find them in that locale you can pretty much find them anywhere,” said Church, the Regional BC Innovation Chair in Cattle Industry Sustainability.
